CWI Calls Emergency Meeting After West Indies Humiliation Against Australia

West Indies cricket has hit rock bottom once again — and this time, it's reached a level that few could’ve imagined. In a dismal end to their Test series against Australia, Roston Chase’s side was bowled out for a jaw-dropping 27 runs in Jamica.

It was the second-lowest total in the entire history of Test cricket and the worst ever in a day-night match. Australia needed just 14.3 overs to dismantle the hosts in the fourth innings, sealing a crushing 3-0 whitewash. The fallout has been swift. Former West Indies captain Carl Hooper didn't hold back, saying “heads must roll” after the embarrassing defeat. On Tuesday, Cricket West Indies (CWI) responded with a statement of their own, announcing an emergency meeting to dig into the disaster.

CWI president Dr. Kishore Shallow said, “As an immediate step, I have advised the Chair of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee to convene an emergency meeting to review the recent Test series against Australia, particularly the final match.” To add weight to the discussions, CWI has invited legendary figures such as Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara to join existing committee members like Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, and Ian Bradshaw.

But fans and former players aren’t convinced. While the inclusion of legends might seem like a positive step, many believe it’s just a distraction. The defeats in the series weren’t close. Australia ran riot in all three games, and the West Indies never really showed up. And now, there's growing frustration not just about what’s happening on the field — but the way the game is being run off it. Just before the series, Roston Chase was named captain in place of Kraigg Brathwaite, but it made little difference. Australia dominated from start to finish.

Off the field, former spinner Dinanath Ramnarine laid into the CWI administration with a scathing critique. “Board members pay themselves what they want, select players based on personal loyalty rather than merit, and treat national team results as irrelevant,” Ramnarine wrote in a powerful social media post. “Whether we win, lose, or are completely humiliated on the international stage, the outcome is the same: they stay in power.”

He went on to slam the board’s lack of planning and long-term structure. “There is no proper, well-thought-out development plan. No sustainable systems. Just tokenism, PR, and smoke screens. It's not progress — they’re just buying time.” With public trust eroding and performances deteriorating, the pressure is mounting. Fans want change, not another symbolic gesture. And unless that change starts from the very top, many believe the game in the Caribbean will continue its painful decline.
