The Corporate Premier League (CPL) is back for its second season, and this time, it’s bigger, bolder, and packed with even more action. Organizers are pulling out all the stops to make this edition an absolute spectacle, and with the tournament expanding from just four teams to a whopping 12, there’s plenty of excitement in store.
However, before the excitement begins, the organizers of the tournament have put out some rules and regulation which the participating teams and players must follow strictly. So, here’s a lowdown of the rules and regulation of CPL 2025.
1) To ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament, strict rules and regulations have been put in place. Timeliness is key, as teams must report on time or risk losing an over for every five-minute delay. A minimum of eight players are required to start an innings.
2) Each team consists of 11 players and four impact players. Captains must submit their squad list before the toss, and once declared, no squad changes are allowed under any circumstances. Only official squad members can take the field.
3) A unique feature of the CPL is its age-based player replacement policy. Players in the 25-30 age group can be replaced by 30+ or 40+ players, but only if they have batted or bowled. However, a 40+ player cannot be replaced by a younger player, and at least one 40+ player must be present while fielding.
4) To maintain professionalism, a strict dress code is enforced, with players required to wear the official team attire provided by the CPL committee. Failure to comply results in disqualification for the day.
5) In case of rain interruptions, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method will apply only if a minimum of six overs per team are completed. If fewer overs are played in league matches, points will be shared equally. For knockout matches, a reserve day is allocated, and if the match remains washed out, the team with the better league-stage position progresses.
6) For fairness, each team gets two unsuccessful DRS reviews per innings, and misconduct towards umpires or officials can lead to immediate disqualification.
The tournament begins with group-stage matches, played from March 29 to April 6. The quarterfinals are scheduled for April 12, followed by the semi-finals on April 13. The final phase of the tournament will include the Silver Final for the losing semi-finalists and the Gold Final for the championship title on April 20.
With a larger lineup of teams, stricter rules, and a highly competitive format, CPL 2025 is shaping up to be a thrilling edition. Fans and players alike can expect a season filled with high-intensity matches and some spectacular cricketing moments. With CPL Season 2 just around the corner, excitement is building among players and fans alike.
