With the IPL 2025 Final just hours away, de Villiers is back in Ahmedabad, cheering from the stands and dreaming of seeing RCB win the elusive trophy that evaded them for so long. He also sent a moving message to his close friend and former teammate Virat Kohli.
In a video shared by Star Sports, de Villiers said, “My message to Virat is to go out and enjoy and have fun out there. Put a smile on your face. I will be there watching you. Bring that (IPL) trophy home. Enjoy every minute of it.” De Villiers didn’t stop there. He had a word for the fans too, who’ve stood by RCB through thick and thin. “To the fans, just buckle up. It’s going to be a great final. It’s going to be one to remember, and just be sure that the boys will give their absolute best till the last ball.”
Now retired, de Villiers never got his hands on the IPL trophy, but he knows just how much it would mean to Kohli and the franchise. His arrival in Ahmedabad was met with chants and cheers from die-hard RCB fans, adding to the electric build-up ahead of the final showdown.
Kohli, who has been in brilliant form all season, enters the final with 614 runs from 14 matches, including eight fifties. He’s been RCB’s pillar with the bat, and this match gives him a shot at something that’s long eluded him — an IPL title. If RCB win, it wouldn’t just be a personal milestone for Kohli; it would be a moment of glory for the fans who’ve backed him for over a decade.
RCB have already gotten the better of Punjab Kings twice this season, but as every cricket fan knows, finals are a different beast. Punjab, led by Shreyas Iyer, booked their spot in the final after a gritty win over Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 and are determined to flip the script. The stage is set. Two teams chasing history. One final to settle it all. And for Kohli and RCB, a chance to finally end years of heartbreak.
