Shaq’s OGs Win 1st NBA All-Star Mini Tournament as Stephen Curry Bags All-Star Game MVP

The NBA All-Star Game is an event which has captured the imagination of basketball fans around the world for years. However, recent iterations of the event have earned the ire of many fans due to lack of competitive energy. In order to remedy that, NBA officials introduced a new format – four teams, three games and only 40 points needed to end each game.

The verdict on the new NBA All-Star format? Well, it’s still up in the air. It was definitely an improvement over last year’s snooze-fest, which saw a ridiculous 397 points scored with zero defense. But let’s be real — the intensity still felt a bit off for many fans. That said, when the All-Star Weekend comes to the Bay Area, you know there's one guy who’s going to show up and put on a show: Stephen Curry. And that’s exactly what he did. Curry led Shaq’s OGs to the All-Star Game win and walked away with his second All-Star Game MVP.

He set the tone early, draining a 3-pointer for the first points of the final, then casually hit one from half-court and sprinted down to chest-bump rapper Mistah Fab on the baseline. By the end of it, Curry had dropped 12 points as Shaq’s OGs cruised past Chuck’s Global Stars 41-25. When it was all said and done, he lifted that MVP trophy high above his head, soaking in the cheers from a crowd that’s been with him through every step of his journey. His arena. His fans. His moment. Just the latest chapter in Curry’s incredible story from Oakland to San Francisco. While the night belonged to Stephen Curry, there was another moment from the night that’s sure to keep fans talking for days.

LeBron James Missing from the All-Star Game

LeBron James made waves ahead of Sunday’s NBA All-Star mini-tournament by announcing he was pulling out of the game due to lingering ankle soreness. The Lakers star broke the news during a pre-tournament press conference, revealing that while he was originally set to play for Team Shaq, he decided to sit this one out. The decision ends an incredible streak — James had started in 20 straight All-Star Games, going all the way back to the 2004-05 season. Just to put that into perspective, the starting lineup that year featured legends like Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan.

Explaining his decision, James said, "With 30 games left to play and trying to secure our position in the intense Western battle, I felt it was important to take care of myself and understand what lies ahead in the final stretch of the season." It’s a move that makes sense, considering the Lakers are locked in a tight race for playoff positioning. But LeBron’s absence left a noticeable void in what might’ve been his final All-Star appearance — though with the King, you never really know.
